Under the direction of the Bishop, or his designate, the Communication Coordinator works in ensuring that our Eparchy, Ministries and Organizations are made more visible to our Ukrainian Catholic community, both locally, nationally and internationally, through the development and maintenance of our Eparchial websites, Social Media, communication of materials and resources to our clergy, parish offices, communication reps and organizations, ensuring that information is shared and accessible, and to continue to develop better communication networks throughout our Eparchy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Development and growth of Eparchial web assets and graphic design
• Tier 1 IT desktop tech support (Windows/MacOS) for Chancery Office staff
• Providing support and assistance to and maintaining relationships with the Eparchial Communications Network –
Eparchial ministries, staff, clergy, parishes, communication reps and organizations; focusing on community engagement and organizational communications
• Co-ordinate the flow of information to the faithful of the Eparchy through bulletin notices, inserts and e-mails
• Designing/Coordinating notices as required by the Bishop or his designate
• Assisting in gathering, verifying, and distributing Eparchial policies/standards, communiqués, activities, and information
• Preparing and distributing Eparchial press and media releases
• Providing consultation, advice and guidance on media / public relations matters to the Bishop and to Eparchial staff
• Maintain relationships with clergy and parishes in our Eparchy and throughout Canada (i.e., other Eparchies, RC Dioceses, Catholic School Boards, etc.)
• Prioritizing the items submitted for the Eparchial websites and responding to requests from outside parties for articles
• Maintaining regular back-up and updates of the Eparchial website
• Overseeing the graphics for the Eparchy’s social media channels’ cover, profile pic, etc.
• Analyzing the social media presence of similar organizations; creating a publishing schedule that maximized content impact
• Acquire and maintain resources appropriate to the activities of the office
• Implementing ongoing education to remain highly effective
• Maintain compliance with all Eparchy policies and procedures
• Carry out additional duties as directed by the Bishop or his designate
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
• Post-secondary education preferably in Communications, Web Design, Marketing, or Public Relations and/or equivalent experience required
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external personnel
• Familiar with publishing and graphic programs like Adobe, Canva etc., and digital management techniques
• Knowledge/Understanding of Ukrainian language and Ukrainian keyboard an asset for website communication
• Knowledge of and appreciation for the Ukrainian Catholic faith and traditions considered an asset
